"... Training this past week took place in the University of KZN's Psychology Department, which is an absolutely beautiful campus (I have to comment on it, since the winters at my university in Michigan are really the exact opposite!). Rose thankfully kept us fed with her best attemptz at "brain food" as different trainers who are all dedicated to different aspects of the struggle against HIV/AIDS came in and covered topics ranging from dispelling common myths, to Nutrition, and even the science behind the virus. For myself, I can say without a doubt that I learned a lot about HIV/AIDS during the week, but more importantly the week's events did a lot to push the issue to the forefront of my mind, and set the stage for the experiences soon to come.
After completing our week of training and getting to know all the other facilitators (a colorful group of poets, designers, ballroom dancers, musicians, and fashion aficionados), I'm sure that YaP will be off to a very fast start. We get ready to tackle our first presentations next week when we go to visit the Umthombo Street Children and Epworth - a catholic girls'school - in Pietermaritzburg. Even in the first week it seems that we'll get the chance to work with a wide range of audiences as we do our best to cover our different topics..."
